Beyond capitalism

The Jubilee Centre is a Christian social reform organisation which seeks to equip the Church by providing a biblical perspective on issues and trends in the world around us. In September 2009, they published the thought-provoking paper, Is Capitalism morally bankrupt? Five moral flaws and their social consequences, which I blogged about in questioning capitalism as we know it.

This month they’ve published a follow-up paper proposing an alternative to capitalism as we know it today. In the paper, a move to a more relational economy is proposed through five strategies:

1. Embed relational values
2. Strengthen household balance sheets
3. Empower extended families
4. Engage capital providers
5. Entrust welfare to local communities
