Book of the year 2010

Both for work and for personal edification/interest I read a good number of books. One book I read recently stood out to me so much that I’d like to recommend it to you as my 2010 “book of the year”.

The book is The Trellis and the Vine: The Ministry Mind-Shift That Changes Everything by Colin Marshall and Tony Payne. Reading it has helped me understand how the Bible defines ministry — the making and nurturing disciples of Christ. It was a timely reminder to me as well that although the structures that support ministry (“the trellis”) are important, they are only useful in so far as they support and enable ministry, and are not ends in themselves. At 196 pages it is a fairly short book, but one that has a clear and important message for all Christians.

The Trellis and the Vine is available online at Amazon US or Amazon UK.

(In case you’re wondering, last year’s book of the year for me was a tie between Total Church by Tim Chester and The Reason for God by Tim Keller.)
